Thank you to all the parents who contributed and/or helped at the class party on Tuesday.  I know the students enjoyed the party!  Hopefully all the gingerbread houses made it home safely--they all did such a good job building and decorating them!

I am doing well and plan to be at school tomorrow and look forward to seeing all my students!

The sign up sheet for the 2nd Trimester Morning Talks is now posted and ready for sign ups.  If you have been chosen for Classmate of the Week this trimester, you will see your name in blue.  You will only sign up for one other Morning Talk.  Your second talk will be the Classmate of the Week presentation.  Everyone else needs to sign up for 2 morning talks.

November 24, 2009

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  I hope that everyone is enjoying a wonderful vacation.

I am feeling better and have posted the new 2nd trimester book report genre list and the updated form on the Book Report page--happy reading!

November 13, 2009

What an exciting day!  In the morning we read and worked on building vocabulary then went to the library to check out some wonderful books.  After recess, we listened to our classmates share their wonderful morning talks.  After that, went to the computer lab to practice our typing skills.  Parents, you would be very proud to see that Room 30 students are really learning to type well!  After lunch we practiced what to do in case of a disaster drill.  It was a busy day packed with learning and excitement.  Don't be surprised if you child is tired.

Have a great weekend.  Remember, the reading packet can be done this weekend, or it can be spread out over next week.  Also, don't forget to go to "Where in the World!" for 2 new clues.  Have your guess ready to turn in on Monday before 9:00.

November 9, 2009

I am excited to announce that on November 20, we will have a special author visiting Garden Gate.  She will speak with the students about the writing process.  In the evening, parents are invited to hear her speak.  If you would like to know more about the author, click on the following link  http://www.choldenko.com/books/alcapone/gsays1.html

If you would like to hear her speak in the evening, you must sign up by November 12.  I have included a link for the sign up flyer at the end of this sentence for the evening talk so you can print it, fill it out, and return it by November 12-- Gennifer parent flier.doc   If you want to preorder any  of her books and have her sign it, you must do so by tomorrow, November 10. Click here if you want to print the order form-- GC Book order form.pdf .  If you are unable to print these forms, you can check last weeks green folder or you can stop by the office to request the forms.

A NEW PAGE FOR THE PEARSON PEEPS

Go to the sidebar and scroll down to the "Pages for Peeps".  Look for your new page.  Click on "WHERE IN THE WORLD!"  and see if you can start guessing the country.  Check back each day for a mystery clue to help you solve the riddle and figure out where you are in the world!

November 3,2009

Individual school pictures will be taken tomorrow.  Please remember to fill out the envelope and send it back to school with your child tomorrow morning.  We are scheduled to have our pictures taken at 9:00.

The copy machine was not working this morning and I was unable to copy the spelling list later in the day, so I will wait until Friday to send home a spelling list.

Thank you to all the parents who helped with car pick up last week!!

October 27, 2009

HELP NEEDED!!  PLEASE consider helping with morning drop off.  It is only this week (Wed., Thurs., and Friday) for 20 minutes in the morning.

The current Pearson Post had been posted.  Since this is a short week, we will not have a spelling list.  Students do need to spend time deciding what they will present for their morning talk.  Parents, please help your child prepare and practice for their morning talk.  If they did not sign up for a morning talk slot, I assigned them a date.  To see and print the schedule, go to the sidebar, scroll down to the section titled "411 For Parents".  Then scroll down to "Morning Talk" and click on it.  You will see a schedule at the bottom of the page.

October 26, 2009

Your help is needed for traffic duty this week.  This is Room 30's week to help with traffic duty.  If you can help in the morning between 7:45 and 8:05, please sign up by scrolling down on the side bar to the new "Traffic Duty Helpers" page under the 411 for Parents.  Thanks you in advance for volunteering to help!

October 21, 2009

Remember to wear comfortable shoes for walking and to bring your lunch in a plastic bag (paper bags tend to rip and fall apart).  After lunch, you can throw away your trash and not have to carry it on the field trip with you.

If you have not visited the "Communication" page, please do so and submit your email information.  Thank you so much!

Our Halloween Party is just around the corner!  We need your help!

We have a wonderful parent who is organizing our classroom Halloween party.  She has set up a yahoo group, so that it will be easy to send out information about parties and events.  Please send an email to me and I will forward it to the room parent. to request access to our group.  Please include your child's name in your email.

Also, be sure to check out the "Peeps Party" page on this side bar, where a list of items has been posted for the Halloween party.  When you sign up to bring an item, please use your user name, not your real name.

October 8, 2009

Now you can look under Pearson Post, and see a link to this week's spelling list.  It is a PDF, so you can download it and print.

I just read through 12 book reports!  Wow, I can tell some wonderful reading is going on in Room 30.  We will have to wait until the end of the trimester to see which author makes the top of the list as the "most read" author.  Remember, you should turn in one book report by next Monday!

October 6, 2009

I hope everyone is enjoying the shorter school days this week.  This is a good week to finish up one or two book reports.  Remember, you can look back at your reading journal and use books you have already read this school year as book report books.  You should have one book report turned in by Monday.  You many have more, if two of the books you read in September fit into one of the four catagories.

Remember to go to the "Morning Talk" page and sign up for the date you will present your morning talk.  About half of the slots are already taken.  If you don't have a date by tomorrow, I will be asking you to choose on when we are in the computer lab tomorrow morning.

October 2, 2009

Wow, so many exciting things are happening in Room 30!

The students received their user names and passwords today, so they can start working on their lifeskill goal.  They will need to scroll down on the side bar to the "Peeps Have Skills" page.  Click on it.  Once on that page, they will need to scroll down to find their bird name and click on it.  This will take them to their skills page.  They will then need to make sure they click on "Edit" at the top of the page.  They will not be able to write on their page when it is on "View".  Their goal is not due until the end of next week, so they have time to think about it.  I will be reveiwing their goal with them and helping them finalize it during the week.

Last, but not least, the spreadsheet is now in place on the "Morning Talk" page, so you and your child can go to that page and sign up for a morning talk date.

Have a great weekend!

October 1, 2009

The Parent/Teacher Conference is a time set up for us to discuss your child's progress and set goals for your child.  I am glad to see so many of you have signed up for a parent/teacher conference slot.  Twelve out of 19 families have signed up--good job, Parents!  For those of you that have not signed up, I will be sending home a sheet with the available slots today.  Please sign up on the website.  If you are having trouble signing up, email me the time you want or stop by the classroom after school and I can walk you through the process.  If you have not signed up by lunch time on Friday, I will need to assign you a time.

September 29, 2009

The Parent/Teacher Conference Sign Up sheet is up and working.  If you have trouble signing up, please leave a comment at the bottom of this page in the comment section and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Remember to use your "dadandmom" name.

September 28, 2009

Due to technical difficulties, the sign up sheet for parent/teacher conferences will not be available until later tonight or tomorrow.  Oh, the joys of technology.  We love it when it works right, we hate it when it fails us.  Please be patient and check back later tonight.  Thanks!

Wanted:  Roommother to plan parties for Room 30.

The first class party is right around the corner.  On October 30 we will have our Halloween Party.  Please let me know if you are willing to be our roommom and plan all three parties this year.  Or, you may feel you can only plan one of the 3 parties.  Either way, please contact me right away so we can start planning the Halloween Party.

September 21, 2009

I have posted the form for the "Genre Book Report".  Look under Book Report in the side bar for the form.

Students will be excused from writing in their journals tonight, but they still need to read for 20 minutes.

With the current heat wave, you may want to send in a water bottle for your child to have throughout the day.  Please label it with their name, so it does not become mixed up with someone elses.

September 16, 2009

The students in Room 30 ROCK!!  We had an awesome day.  We enjoyed and created movement to music during our music class.  After that, we used Kidspiration in the computer lab to brainstorm the characteristics of California's Valley Region and Mountain Region.  Finally, we practiced rounding, read wonderful books, and reviewed what we have learned about the sun and shadows.

Just a quick remember, students do not have school this Friday--Teacher Learning Day.

Because of the short week, homework due dates will change a little:

1.  We will wait until next week to do the observations of the moon.

2.  Spelling test will be due on Monday.

3.  You will not have to write in your reading log over the weekend, but you will be expected to read for 20 minutes each day.

September 9,2009

At 8:30 this morning, we went outside and traced the shadows our bodies made when they blocked the sun.  Right before lunch, we went outside again to stand in the same space and trace our shadows.  Wow, our shadows must have been zapped by the shrinking machine! Something to think about:  Why was your shadow so much shorter?

When I was a child, one of my favorite magazines has a section called "Boy is My Face Red".  Well, today I experienced one of those "Boy is My Face Red" moments.  So, without going into further detail, please send back the math quiz I sent home, so I can finalize the grade on it.  Thank you for your understanding.

September 8, 2009
